Buxus Microphylla (Japanese Box) is a very hardy and relatively fast growing variety of buxus. One of the big advantages of this particular variety is that it will thrive in a shaded position, but will also grow well in partial sun.
Buxus Microphylla has dense, vibrant foliage providing structure and elegance to gardens including Japanese style gardens and formal gardens. These compact globes enhance garden design with minimal maintenance. A great choice for low maintenance high impact.

How to care for your Buxus Microphylla Ball:
Planting: If planting in the ground make a hole twice the size of the root ball and use free draining growing media. Avoid planting in hard clay or an environment that does not drain freely.
Potting: If you plan to keep your Buxus Ball in a pot for at least 3 years, we recommend starting with a 30-40 litre pot, and after 3-4 years consider increasing pot size, by 10-20%.
Fertiliser: We recommend slow release fertiliser (6 to 12 month release), excellent brands include Osmocote and Nutricote but your local garden centre will be able to provide recommendations too.
Watering: Like most plants Buxus Microphylla does appreciate being watered during dry periods to the extent that it does not dry out, but also does not become water logged. Water more frequently in the dry summer heat, and less frequently in winter.
Trimming: Buxus Microphylla balls should be trimmed twice per year to keep their attractive round shape. Always use sharp and sanitised blades when trimming. Gently work your way around the globe removing longer unshapely growth, to retain the ball.
