How to care for your Podocarpus Gracilior Standard Tree
Planting: If planting in the ground make a hole twice the size of the root ball and use free draining growing media. Avoid planting in hard clay or an environment that does not drain freely.
Potting: If you plan to keep your Podocarpus Gracilior in a pot for at least 3 years, we recommend starting with a 40 -50 litre pot, and after 3-4 years consider increasing pot size, by 10-20%.
Fertiliser: We recommend slow release fertiliser (6 to 12 month release), excellent brands include Osmocote and Nutricote but your local garden centre will be able to provide recommendations too.
Watering: Like most plants Podocarpus Gracilior does appreciate being watered during dry periods to the extent that it does not dry out, but also does not become water logged. Water more frequently in the summer, and less frequently in winter.
Trimming: Podocarpus Gracilior standard trees should be trimmed twice per year to keep their attractive round shape. Always use sharp and sanitised blades when trimming. Gently work your way around the ball removing longer unshapely growth.
