Podocarpus Totara Matapouri Blue Standard (Lollipop) Trees Large

Podocarpus Totara Matapouri Blue is a wonderful, hardy native New Zealand tree that has a lovely tone of dense blue foliage.  These trees are  "Standards" which means that they have trunks straight as an arrow with lovely round balls at the top. 

They have been shaped over many years so the ball atop the tree is very dense and full. They can be used in rows along walls or fences to stunning affect, and will be sure to add value to your property if planted thoughtfully. They will also work well in pots.

How to care for your Totara Matapouri Blue Standard Tree

Planting:  If planting in the ground make a hole twice the size of the root ball and use free draining growing media.  Avoid planting in hard clay or an environment that does not drain freely.

Potting:  If you plan to keep your Totara Matapouri Blue in a pot for at least 3 years, we recommend starting with a 40-50 litre pot, and after 3-4 years consider increasing pot size, by 10-20%. 

Fertiliser: We recommend slow release fertiliser (6 to 12 month release), excellent brands include Osmocote and Nutricote but your local garden centre will be able to provide recommendations too.

Watering:  Like most plants Totara Matapouri Blue does appreciate being watered during dry periods to the extent that it does not dry out, but also does not become water logged. Water more frequently in summer, and less frequently in winter. 

Trimming:  Totara Matapouri Blue standard trees should be trimmed twice per year to keep their attractive round shape.  Always use sharp and sanitised blades when trimming. New foliage will shoot from the ball, keep new foliage trimmed to retain ball.
